Why Low-Chloride Garnet Enables Direct Coating After Sandblasting?

Garnet sandblasting is widely used for metal surface cleaning and preparation. For most projects, the next step after blasting is coating—paint, lining, or anti-corrosion layers.

But there is a hidden risk: soluble salts like chlorides left on the surface after blasting absorb moisture, penetrate the coating, and cause blistering or under-film rust. That means rework, delays, and failed inspections.

Conductivity testing measures salt residue. A low-chloride garnet abrasive helps keep surface conductivity within required limits.

SEPPE River Garnet achieves a water-soluble chloride content of below 25 ppm —allowing direct coating after blasting without high-pressure washing. Customers using SEPPE river garnet have reported significant improvements in adhesion and anti-corrosion life compared to common abrasives, making it suitable for demanding projects such as offshore and marine applications.
