As we all know, garnet is a natural mineral abrasive. And it is widely used in water cutting, sandblasting, and water filtration.
Garnet has multiple sources, of which three are known: garnet deposits, beaches, and river channels. Due to their different sources, the hardness, purity, color, and impurities of these substances vary during their formation in nature.
But how to choose the most suitable garnet for you? Here are some suggestions that you must prioritize.
First, hardness.
The hardness of garnet generally ranges from 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. If it is lower than 7, please consider whether the garnet has undergone secondary processing or contains a high amount of impurities.
Second, appearance.
Gernerally speaking, crushed garnet ore has relatively sharp edges and corners, making it more suitable for sandblasting or high-efficiency water cutting. In addition, the customized demand for large particles used in water filtration also requires crushing of raw ore to obtain the appropriate particle size.
Therefore, you must make your choice based on the key points of your application.
Third, cleanliness.
We cannot change the chemical composition of garnet, but physical processing can better reflect its quality. This is related to the conductivity of garnet and the amount of chloride and other components, which directly affect the performance of garnet during sandblasting and water cutting processes.
