30/60 garnet is a medium-coarse blasting abrasive. It is used to remove rust and old coatings, and to prepare steel before painting or anti-corrosion coating.
This grade covers particles between 30 and 60 mesh. Compared with 80 mesh, it cleans faster and leaves a more visible surface profile. Compared with 20/40, it is less aggressive and easier to control.
Actual values based on supplier's TDS/COA.
Item | Typical Specification |
Product Name | Garnet blasting abrasive |
Common Grade | 30/60 mesh |
Mohs Hardness | 7.5-8.0 |
Specific Gravity | 4.0-4.2 g/cm³ |
Bulk Density | 2.1-2.4 g/cm³ |
Free Silica | Typically <1% (SEPPE SGA <0.1%) |
Chloride Content | Typically ≤25 ppm (SEPPE SGA 0.0003%) |
Typical Surface Profile | Approx. 50-75 microns |
Main Applications | Steel blasting, shipyards, storage tanks, pipelines, bridges |
30/60 garnet creates a surface profile of about 50-75 microns. This range works well for many industrial coatings and heavy-duty anti-corrosion systems.
Actual results depend on blasting pressure, nozzle distance, nozzle movement, and steel condition. Test on a small area before full-scale blasting.
30/60 garnet is common for steel structures, shipyards, storage tanks, pipelines, bridges, offshore structures, and heavy-duty coating preparation. It fits projects that need faster cleaning and a medium-to-high surface profile.
Garnet Grade | Typical Feature | Common Application |
20/40 | Coarser particles, stronger impact, higher profile | Heavy rust, thick coating removal, heavy steel treatment |
30/60 | Balanced cleaning efficiency and surface profile | Industrial steel blasting and coating preparation |
80 mesh | Finer particles, smoother surface | Light blasting, finer surface treatment, waterjet cutting |
120 mesh | Very fine, for finer surface requirements | Fine finishing, special surface effects, some waterjet applications |
Price per ton is only one factor. Particle size, dust level, chloride content, free silica, moisture, packaging, batch consistency, and documents (TDS, MSDS, COA) all matter.
A cheaper abrasive can increase total cost. It may create dust, block equipment, contaminate the surface, or cause coating failure and rework.
SEPPE Technologies supplies SGA 30/60 river garnet for industrial blasting projects. SGA is a natural river garnet screened and quality controlled for steel surface cleaning, old coating removal, and coating preparation.
SEPPE SGA focuses on controlled particle size, low dust, low chloride (0.0003%), low free silica (<0.1%), and stable moisture (0.18%). These details affect abrasive flow, blasting speed, surface cleanliness, coating adhesion, and rework risk.
For export customers, SEPPE provides suitable packaging, stable batch supply, TDS, MSDS, COA, and mesh size recommendations based on your material, coating system, and target surface profile.
