Some production and processing enterprises use insufficient water volume or extremely poor water quality in the washing process to save costs, and some even skip the washing procedure directly, resulting in extremely high silt (dust) content in the abrasive.
Adding a magnetic separation process slows down production speed, and the impurities removed during magnetic separation carry away a portion of the garnet abrasive. For this reason, manufacturers are unwilling to perform magnetic separation out of production capacity concerns; even when magnetic separation is carried out, the conveyor speed is increased, which weakens the separation effect and leads to incomplete impurity removal.
Abrasive particle size control relies mainly on the screening process, and common quality problems at this stage fall into two categories: oversize and undersize:
Some manufacturers are unwilling to regularly shut down production to replace worn screens in order to meet tight deadlines or reduce costs. Severely worn screens cause screened particles to exceed the coarse particle standard; even worse, some manufacturers deliberately switch to larger-aperture screens to increase output. Such oversize abrasives can easily clog sand pipes during waterjet cutting or abrasive blasting, and in glass processing, they raise the edge chipping rate and even cause glass breakage.
Since fine particles are readily generated during conventional production, manufacturers mix non-compliant fine particles into coarse particle products for combined sale to reduce material loss and waste abrasive. During use, fine particles do not cause pipe clogging, so this practice is highly concealed and difficult for ordinary waterjet processing users to detect. However, due to the insufficient impact force of fine particles, users will find that abrasive consumption increases compared with standard products, and the actual operating cost is higher than that of equivalent standard products.
To reduce costs and improve the price competitiveness of products, many garnet abrasive manufacturers often pass off unqualified products as high-quality products:
Garnet deposits in China often contain various associated minerals, and some factories still rely on relatively outdated processing methods. As a result, the purity of their finished products is generally low.
Some garnet abrasives contain a high proportion of green-colored associated minerals that cannot be effectively removed. Some manufacturers market such material as “green garnet,” while others promote it as “green sand abrasive.”
These green-colored associated minerals generally have lower hardness and density than abrasive-grade garnet. As a result, they deliver poorer cutting or blasting performance and require higher consumption.
From the SEPPE Quality Control Hub, you can view SEPPE's published garnet analysis reports and information on different specifications.
We strictly control all production links and keep silt content and soluble chloride levels far below industrial standards, preventing silt buildup or corrosion inside blasting/waterjet systems. We reject the practice of sacrificing quality for production capacity, adopt multiple magnetic separation processes to remove light minerals, low-hardness associated minerals, and metal impurities, and replace screens regularly to avoid pipe clogging caused by coarse particles.

We aim to be your reliable garnet supplier, and will not just present impressive test reports as a perfunctory response. In the Request a Trial Review form, you can fill in your application, equipment, current abrasive, operating conditions and the results you need to verify, then submit the form. SEPPE will review and confirm the recommended specifications, sample quantity and available technical documents accordingly.
After receiving the samples, you can conduct a comparative trial using the same equipment and operating conditions, changing only the abrasive. We will work through any issues together during the process, as your strongest after-sales guarantee!
